PhilHealth launches GAMOT package

MANILA, Philippines, August 18 ------ The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. yesterday launched the enhanced PhilHealth GAMOT (Guaranteed and Accessible Medications for Outpatient Treatment), a drug benefit package consisting of P20,000 worth of free medicines per member per year. “PhilHealth GAMOT includes 75 types of free medicines with an annual benefit limit of P20,000 per beneficiary. These are for patients not needing confinement,” said Health Secretary Ted Herbosa who chairs the PhilHealth board of directors, during the launch in Quezon City. “With this benefit package, PhilHealth will shoulder medicines worth P20,000 per member every year in accredited pharmacies and hospitals nationwide,” he added.
The medications covered by GAMOT are common treatments for a wide range of conditions, such as infections (anti-microbial), asthma and/or chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), diabetes, high cholesterol (dyslipidemia), high blood pressure and heart conditions (cardiology) and nervous system disorders, along with other supportive therapies. To avail themselves of the PhilHealth GAMOT, members should be registered in their PhilHealth YAKAP Clinic of choice.
