PH Women's Baseball Team earns wildcard entry to WBSC World Cup

MANILA, May 8 ------ The Philippine Women's National Baseball Team will be making its debut on the world stage at the 2026 WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup. This, as the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced that the Philippines has been granted a wildcard to the Women's Baseball World Cup.


The World No. 21 Filipina batters will be part of Group Tainan, completing the 12 teams across two groups in the group stage of the tournament. In its World Cup debut, the Philippines will be up against some of the world's best squads in No. 1 Japan, No. 5 Venezuela, No. 6 Chinese Taipei, No. 7 Cuba and World No. 15 Great Britain.


Group Rockford includes two-time champion USA, Canada, Mexico, Hong Kong, Australia, and South Korea. Japan is the seven-time defending Women's Baseball World Champions, reaching the final in every edition since the tournament's inauguration in 2004. The WBSC Women's Baseball Group Stage 2026 kicks off with Group Rockford from July 22 to 26, followed by Group Tainan from August 23 to 25.


The top three teams of each group will advance to the Final Stage in Rockford, Illinois from July 19 to 25, 2027. Last November 2025, the Philippines finished sixth at the IV BFA Women's Baseball Asia Cup in Hangzhou, China.
