PH set to host two WTA events in 2027

October 11 ------ Not one, but two WTA events on Philippine shores next year. Riding on the momentum of Alex Eala's rise in the professional scene, the Philippines is in for a double treat as the country plays as host to the WTA 125 Philippine Women’s Open (PWO) and a new 250-level tournament here.
The development was announced by Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) secretary general John Rey Tiangco and board member Dyan Castillejo Thursday, Oct. 1, disclosing the schedules for the two competitions with the PWO scheduled in January and the maiden 250-level tournament slated between October or November. “We’re happy to announce and confirm late last night we threshed out some details with our franchise holder of WTA 250. We’re going to have WTA 250 next year, 2027, late October [or] early November,” Tiangco said. “To clarify, we won’t be replacing the 125. We will still have the WTA 125 in January,” Tiangco continued.
This would be a big boost for the Filipina netters, including Eala, to compete against the world’s finest before the Filipino crowd following the successful staging of the PWO last January at the fabled Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. There, Colombia’s Camila Osorio emerged as the singles champion after beating Croatia’s Donna Vekic, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5, in the final.
