PH reports 1,790 new cases; Public urged to seriously comply with the health protocols

February 8 ------ The Department of Health (DOH) reported Sunday, Feb. 7 that around 1,790 more people have tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19), raising the country’s overall tally of cases to 537,310. The case bulletin showed that only 26,333 are active cases or those who are still undergoing treatment. Of this, 87.9 percent have mild symptoms, 5.6 percent are asymptomatic, three percent are in critical condition, 2.9 percent are in severe condition, while 0.67 percent are in moderate condition.

The recovery count hit 499,798 with 11,388 new patients who have recovered, while the death toll also increased to 11,179 after 70 more patients died. The DOH has reminded the public to continue observing the minimum health standards, saying that it remains the best way to protect themselves against the coronavirus disease. DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire encouraged the public not to let their guards down even if they get tested for COVID-19 and have a negative result.

“This testing would just be a one-time event at pagkatapos niyan ay maari pa rin kayong ma-expose at magkasakit kaya kailangan pa rin laging mag-ingat [This testing would just be a one-time event and after that, you can still be exposed and get sick, so you still need to be careful],” she said at Laging Handa press briefing on Wednesday, Feb. 3.

“Baka ho magkaroon tayo ng complacency at confidence na because na test na po tayo ng isa at nagnegatibo tayo, hindi po ibig sabihin na hindi na kayo pwedeng magpositibo in the coming days. So, iyon pa rin po, continue to comply with the minimum health protocols,” she added.
