June 19 ------ The Philippine women’s tennis team continued its splendid play and blanked Iran, 3-0, for its second win in the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Group II at the National Tennis Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Fueled by a 2-1 win over Uzbekistan, the Filipina hitters came out blazing and torched the Iranians throughout their three matches to improve their slate to 2-1 and take the No. 2 spot in Group B. Iran, for its part, remained winless in two appearances along with Uzbekistan to stay at the bottom of the standings.
Tennielle Madis turned on the momentum for the Nationals after listing a 6-7(7), 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Iran’s Mandegar Farzami in their Match 1 singles clash. It was then followed by a dominant performance from Alex Joy Milliam who demolished Meshkatolzahra Safi, 6-1, 6-1 in Match 2. Milliam and Shaira Hope Rivera put the nail in the coffin after denying Safi and Kimia Sagheb Tehrani’s second-set rally to post a 6-1, 7-6(7) victory for the women’s squad that was guided by BJK Cup alumna and two-time SEA Games champion Denise Dy.
