December 2 ------ The Philippine and Japanese militaries conducted a joint activity in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said.
In a statement, the AFP said the Philippine military and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) held their third bilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity (MCA) on Saturday, reflecting the steady growth of their defense cooperation. The AFP deployed the BRP Antonio Luna (FF151), a PN AW159 (NH441) helicopter, and a Philippine Air Force C-208B surveillance aircraft.
The JMSDF, meanwhile, deployed the JS Harusame (DD102) and an SH-60K helicopter. Among the interoperability drills conducted was the Division Tactics/Officer of the Watch (DIVTACS/OOW) maneuver, designed to enhance coordinated movements and station-keeping.
The forces also carried out a cross-deck landing exercise to familiarize helicopter crews and ship personnel with one another’s deck procedures and strengthen coordination during aviation operations. A photo exercise (PHOTOEX) was likewise performed to maintain precise formation for documentation of the activity.
