MANILA, March 13 ------ The Philippines needs to prepare plans for Filipinos in California after the Federal Bureau of Investigation warned against Iran’s possible retaliation in the United States’ western coast, Malacañang said. “Kapag may ganiyan na mga impormasyon, kailangan din maghanda ang ating bansa para sa ating mga kababayan,” Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a Palace briefing. “Hindi po ito maaring ipagsawalang bahala o tulugan,” she said.
US authorities were earlier notified of a possible surprise drone attack in the Golden State about a week after American and Israeli forces launched air strikes in Tehran, killing Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. There are about 1.6 million Filipinos living in California, according to 2023 data from the US-based think tank Pew Research Center.
Of this number, some 500,000 are staying in Los Angeles, while another 290,000 are in San Francisco, data showed.
