MANILA, June 1 ----- An official of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Wednesday said domestic flights won't be affected by North Korea's planned spy satellite launch between May 31 to June 11, adding that outbound flights may reroute.
"Hindi naman po tayo gaano apektado sapagkat iyon pong area na kanilang in-identify is almost at the west portion ng Pilipinas, malapit na po sa boundary ng another airspace. Ang tatamaan lang po doon ay dalawang ruta – iyon pong papuntang Guam (The Philippine airspace will not be totally affected, because the identified area is almost at the west portion of the country, near the boundary of another airspace. Only two routes will be affected, those bound for Guam)," CAAP Deputy Director General Edgardo Diaz said in a public briefing.
Domestic flights, he said, will not be affected. Flights going to and out of the country will not be totally affected since aircraft can be rerouted, he added. CAAP earlier issued a notice to airmen, cautioning them of the affected airspace in line with the rocket launch. "Iyon naman pong flights ng mga carriers coming from the Philippines going to the east, papunta pong mga Amerika o mga area na iyan, hindi naman po affected sapagkat may other airways na available po (Carriers from the Philippines going to the east, America, will not be affected as there are other airways available)," Diaz said.
On Wednesday, the Korean Central News Agency reported that the attempt to launch the Chollima-1 rocket carrying military reconnaissance satellite failed. The state news agency added that the rocket crashed into the Yellow Sea. North Korea vowed to conduct a second launch, according to reports.
