PH detects 63 more cases of Omicron subvariants

Metro Manila, June 29 ------ The Department of Health (DOH) reported additional cases of Omicron subvariants BA.5, BA.2.12.1, and BA.4 in the country.

Health Spokesperson Maria Rosario Vergeire announced in a media briefing that 50 more individuals tested positive for BA.5, 11 were infected with BA.2.12.1, and two more were positive with BA.4. Of the 50 BA.5 cases, Vergeire said 38 are from Region 6, five from Metro Manila, and seven are returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs). This brings the total number of BA.5 cases in the country to 93. The DOH added that 41 individuals are now tagged as recovered, four are still in isolation, while the condition of five others are still being verified.

Meanwhile, out of the 11 new BA.2.12.1 cases, seven are from Region 6 and four are ROFs. Ten of them have already recovered from the infection while one is still isolated. There are now 43 BA.2.12.2 cases detected in the Philippines. Further, among the new BA.4 patients, one is from Region 6 and one is an ROF. This brings the total cases of the subvariant to three. Both of the newly detected BA.4 cases have already recovered from the virus, the DOH said. However, Vergeire said that the exposure of the infected individuals remains unknown and authorities are still verifying their travel histories.
