Metro Manila, June 23 ------ The Department of Health reported 32 more cases of the Omicron subvariant BA.5 in the country.
Health Spokesperson Ma. Rosario Vergeire said 21 of the cases are from Region 6, four from Region 4-A, four from NCR, and three from Region 3. This brings the total number of confirmed BA.5 cases in the country to 43. However, Vergeire said the exposure of the infected individuals remains unknown and authorities are still verifying their travel histories.
Of the new cases, 30 individuals are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, one is partially vaccinated, while the vaccination status of one case is still being verified. Twenty-two individuals had mild symptoms, five were asymptomatic, while health authorities have yet to get information on the symptoms manifested by the five others. The DOH added that 16 of the newly detected BA.5 cases are now tagged recovered and 14 are still isolating, while the quarantine status of two others is still unknown.
