MANILA, November 19 ------ The Philippine Men's National Football Team kept a clean sheet against Maldives, 2-0 in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers.

The Philippines dominated possession in the first half at the Maldives National Football Stadium, going against the home team that has yet to get a win in the qualifiers. Jefferson Tabinas headed in the breakthrough goal in the 24 minute to give the Philippines a 1-0 lead over Maldives. Just like in their match against Tajikistan last June, Tabinas converted a corner kick into a goal with a header.

Before the first half ended, Sandro Reyes doubled the lead of the Philippines in the 40 minute with a left-footed strike off a pass from Jarvey Gayoso. Maldives became more aggressive in the second half to avoid another loss against the Philippines, but ultimately failed to convert on multiple chances.

Bjorn Kristensen and Sebastian Rasmussen tried to add to the Philippines' lead, narrowly missing several attempts until the final whistle. With the 2-0 win, the Philippines gets three points to level with Tajikistan at 13 points. Both sides have an identical record of four wins and one draw. However, Tajikistan took the lead in Group A due to goal difference after their 5-0 victory over Timor-Leste.

The Philippines will return to action next year in a must-win match against Tajikistan on March 31, 2026.
