March 4 ------ PETRO Gazz laid its crushing five-set loss to Choco Mucho to rest with a vengeful sweep over erstwhile unbeaten PLDT, 25-16, 25-23, 25-21, in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena. Brooke Van Sickle erupted for 23 points on 21 attacks, one block, and one ace for the Angels’ second win in three games. "Basically the balls, you know, were hitting themselves. I'm really happy. Like the connection with the setters are starting to build slowly. And again, it's a team sport, and they're great teammates, they make me feel super comfortable. They have my back as I have theirs and I'm just really proud of this team," said Van Sickle.
In the battle of the league's lone Fil-foreign aces, Van Sickle had the last laugh over PLDT's Savi Davison who had a stellar 19-point night of her own in their first defeat of the season. "I expected her to make points and she's a fantastic player, she's very physical, jumps high, hits extremely hard. I thought just even beyond her offensive game, I thought her defensive even passing was really well, she had a really good all around game so it was it was super fun to play against her," said Van Sickle of Davison.
Coming off a 29-piece in their five-set loss to the Flying Titans, Jonah Sabete added 13 attack points in a strong response for their third win halfway through the opening round of play. Meanwhile, Erika Santos' 10 points off the bench couldn't save the High Speed Hitters from the depths of an opening defeat.
