PBBM sets regular, special holidays for 2027

MANILA, September 12 ------ President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has issued Proclamation 1427, which contains the official list of regular holidays and special non-working days for 2027.

The proclamation, signed by Marcos on Sept. 8, lists 10 regular holidays, four special non-working days, one special working day, and four additional special non-working days for next year.

The following dates are declared holidays:

Regular Holidays:

January 1 (Friday) – New Year’s Day

March 25 – Maundy Thursday

March 26 – Good Friday

April 9 (Friday) – Araw ng Kagitingan

May 1 (Saturday) – Labor Day

June 12 (Saturday) – Independence Day

August 30 (last Monday of August) – National Heroes Day

November 30 (Tuesday) – Bonifacio Day

December 25 (Saturday) – Christmas Day

December 30 (Thursday) – Rizal Day

Special (Non-Working) Days:

August 21 (Saturday) – Ninoy Aquino Day

November 1 (Monday) – All Saints’ Day

December 8 (Wednesday) – Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary

December 31 (Friday) – Last Day of the Year

Additional special (non-working) days:

February 6 (Saturday) – Chinese New Year

March 27 – Black Saturday

November 2 (Tuesday) – All Souls’ Day

December 24 (Friday) – Christmas Eve

Meanwhile, Feb. 25, 2027 (Thursday) is declared a special working day, in commemoration of the 41st anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, which ushered in “political, social, and economic reforms in the country.”

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is directed to issue the implementing guidelines for the proclamation, which takes effect immediately. The proclamation also states that separate proclamations declaring national holidays for the observance of Eidul Fitr and Eidul Adha will be issued after the actual dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible.

The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos will recommend to the President the actual dates on which these holidays will respectively fall. The proclamation notes that Chinese New Year is one of the “most revered and festive events” celebrated not only in China but also in the Philippines, while Black Saturday has been traditionally declared a special non-working day nationwide in observance of Holy Week, “one of the most cherished traditions of our predominantly Catholic people.”

Under Republic Act 9256, Aug. 21 of every year is declared a national non-working holiday to commemorate the death anniversary of former Senator Benigno S. Aquino Jr. Dec. 8 of every year is likewise celebrated as a special non-working holiday to commemorate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary.

The proclamation said the declaration of Nov. 2, 2027 (Tuesday) and Dec. 24, 2027 (Friday) as additional special non-working days “will strengthen family ties by providing more time for the traditional All Saints' Day, All Souls' Day activities, and Christmas Day activities, as well as promote domestic tourism.”
