PBBM orders aid for families of 2 Filipino seafarers killed in Hormuz

MANILA, September 4 ------ President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered concerned agencies to provide immediate assistance, including applicable benefits, compensation, and insurance proceeds, to the families of two Filipino seafarers who died in a security incident in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) earlier confirmed that two Filipino seafarers were killed after the Saudi-flagged crude oil tanker SIDR was attacked while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Monday evening. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Thursday the President has been informed of the incident and has expressed condolences to the families of the two seafarers from Cabuyao, Laguna and Daanbantayan, Cebu.

She said Marcos ordered the government to immediately assist the bereaved families and ensure they receive all appropriate benefits. “Nag-utos na po ang Pangulo agad-agad na tulungan ang mga pamilya ng dalawa nating kababayan na nasawi at ibigay ang lahat ng kailangan nila pati ang benepisyo, compensation, insurance proceeds na naaangkop na dapat ibigay sa ating kababayan na nasawi,” Castro said.

She said Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac has been providing the President with updates on the incident, given that Filipino overseas workers are involved. She assured the families that the government would continue to assist them. “Hindi po pababayaan ng gobyerno, ng pamahalaan iyong pamilyang naiwan ng dalawa nating kababayan,” she said.
