MANILA, June 3 ------ It's official: Mikey Williams is headed to Converge in exchange for Jordan Heading. The PBA approved the transaction that will see Heading head to the TNT Tropang 5G. It marks the end of a long saga between Williams and TNT, the team that drafted fourth overall in the 2020 PBA Rookie Draft. Williams led the Tropang 5G to two championships, but has not played for them since the 2023 Governors' Cup over a contract dispute.
The 29-year-old Heading, meanwhile, was the first overall pick by TerraFirma in the special round of the 2020 Draft for Gilas Pilipinas players. He did not play a single game for the Dyip, instead taking his talents to overseas leagues before Converge acquired his rights in November 2024. Heading did not see action when Converge clobbered TerraFirma, 117-103, last Wednesday and instead took the opportunity to bid goodbye to the FiberXers. “Credit to Converge. I’m grateful for them and for everything that they’ve done for me,” he said. “They’ve been very respectful to me throughout this whole thing.”
Heading is tipped to provide a boost to the Grand Slam-seeking TNT squad, which is missing a handful of key pieces due to injuries. Williams, 33, last saw action for Strong Group Athletics in the 34th Dubai International Basketball Championship earlier this year.
