Oscar De La Hoya mulls ring return at 47 years old

June 25 ------ Retired six-division world champion Oscar De La Hoya is contemplating a comeback at 47 years old, after nearly twelve years of ring absence.

After seeing clips of a 53-year-old Mike Tyson looking sharp in training, De La Hoya says he just might give boxing another go. “I actually want to see what Tyson does first,” De La Hoya told The Ring.

“I have been working out, I have been training, I have been staying in shape. Obviously, I'm not in fighting shape yet to go twelve rounds. I'm sure I could get there. We'll see,” he added. “I want to see Tyson perform, see how his reflexes are, see if he can go past three or four rounds. We'll see and then I'll make my decision.”

And before anyone says that De La Hoya is joking or simply wants to add a journeyman to his win record, he made it clear that if he comes back, he is coming back for the top dogs. “I'm really considering it. It doesn't matter [who I fight],” he stressed. “Anybody, anybody who is the best out there. I still have that mentality. It would be at 160. If it's at 154, maybe someone coming up from 147. Any top, top, top guy at 147. It doesn't really matter.”
