One Championship events scrapped as Singapore goes into lockdown

April 9 ------ TWO One Championship events have been scrapped as Singapore goes into lockdown for a month to contain the spread of the coronavirus. One: Hope set on April 17 and One: Strength scheduled April 24 have been called off in line with Singapore’s measures to prevent further transmission of COVID-19. "We are living through the most extraordinary of times. The good news is that these short-term restrictions will undoubtedly slow down the coronavirus, and flatten the curve," said the promotion's chairman Chatri Sityodtong in a statement. Singapore was one of the first countries to be affected by the virus outside of China but has seemingly beat the outbreak after installing a stern travel restrictions and strict social distancing measures as early as February. Past weeks, however, have seen spikes in local transmission of the virus, with the city-state recording six deaths from the 1,375 confirmed cases. Singapore prime minister Lee Hsien Loong announced the lockdown, except for essential services, starting on Tuesday to slow the COVID-19 spread which would last for at least a month. Source: spin.ph
