June 7 ------ Olivia Rodrigo proudly reflected on her Filipino heritage and shared her admiration for Philippine fans.
In a “dA-Zed Guide to Being” video with Dazed, the 23-year-old star spoke about being half Filipina and recalled visiting the Philippines for the first time during her “Guts” world tour. “F is for Filipina. I am half Filipina and I recently got the chance to go to the Philippines for the first time,” Olivia said.
The singer-songwriter described Filipinos as welcoming and lovely, adding that she was nervous before taking the stage because it was the biggest show she had played at the time. “They just could not be more welcoming or more lovely. I think that at the time was my biggest show I’ve ever played and so I was really nervous but I walked out on stage and it was just such a lovely experience,” she said.
Olivia also praised the singing ability of Filipinos, saying it was evident throughout the concert. “And Filipino people are historically very good singers. And if you watch the videos back, you can like hardly even hear me ‘cause it’s just like chorus of just like perfectly in-tune vocals from the audience. And I think some people were even harmonizing in some of the clips that I saw. So it was very special,” she said.
