OCTA: Philippines COVID-19 positivity rate rises to 19.3 percent

Manila, Philippines, May 8 ----- The nationwide COVID-19 positivity rate increased to 19.3 percent last Saturday with most new cases still in the National Capital Region (NCR), independent monitoring group OCTA Research said.

OCTA fellow Guido David yesterday said cases might peak “middle to late May. The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday recorded 1,878 new cases. 19.3% nationwide positivity rate,” David said in a Twitter post. “May 6, 2023 DOH reported 1,878 new cases, 9 deaths (0 in the National Capital Region), 833 recoveries and 10,195 active cases.”

In the NCR, 807 cases were reported while 149 cases were reported in Cavite and 142 in Rizal. Other provinces and regions with high numbers of new cases reported are Laguna with 90; Bulacan with 70; Camarines Sur, 46; Davao del Sur, 42; Iloilo, 35; Albay, 34; Batangas, 33; Quezon, 33; and Negros Occidental, 30. OCTA projected 1,400 to 1,600 new cases for Sunday. On Friday it said that COVID-19 positivity rate in the NCR is expected to reach 25 percent.
