Nxled Chameleons take down Capital1 in battle of PVL minnows

April 24 ------ NXLED bagged its fourth win of the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference against cellar-dwelling Capital1, 25-13, 25-23, 25-22, at the PhilSports Arena. Camille Victoria took charge with 14 points built on 11 attacks and three blocks in the penultimate game of the conference for the Chameleons.

"In today’s game, I know we will win, and then I’m not afraid to lose against Capital1. I already trust the players," said Nxled head coach Taka Minowa. "Since last year, we just focused on the last game against Petro Gazz. This is just for more confidence for the next game. As a side, Lycha Ebon had a body problem so that’s why we could not use Lycha. That’s why we had to use Camille Victoria as an opposite, and then she got (player of the game)," he added.

The newest Chameleon in Ivy Lacsina caught fire deep in the third set to lead a feisty comeback from 2-11 down to 15-all. She fired 12 points on 11 attacks to cap a bounce-back victory following a straight-sets beatdown at the hands of defending champion Creamline. Nxled mainstay Jho Maraguinot also pitched in eight markers and seven digs to aid the Chameleons' cause.

On the flip side, the Solar Spikers' momentum-building start in the final frame fell flat after a troubling first set and a late tug-of-war come Set 2. Des Clemente was the lone Capital1 ace in double figures with 10 points on six attacks and four aces as the league newcomers are still held to just one win ahead of their debut conference finale versus now-eliminated Cignal on Saturday.
