Non-PBA firms joining 3x3 meet

MANILA, Philippines, March 25 ------ The PBA’s inaugural 3x3 tournament continues to draw interest from prospective participants with three non-PBA companies already knocking at the doors. “So far, we have three companies that have submitted letters of intent to participate in PBA 3x3,” Dicky Bachmann, PBA 3x3 committee chairman, told The STAR yesterday. “I expect another three by the end of the week,” he added.

The Alaska governor declined to name the prospective teams, saying they’re still in the process of checking the applicants. The PBA’s regular ballclubs, with the exception of Bachmann’s team Alaska, will be participating in the standalone 3x3 play, which the pro league aims to launch a week after the Philippine Cup’s opening. “Our target is to hit 16 teams,” said Bachmann.

PBA 3x3 is looking at holding three conferences of five legs each in a closed-circuit setup or a 13-day bubble for one conference, depending on what the IATF will allow. Teams, according to Bachmann, have been given until April 8 to submit their respective 3x3 lineups. Fil-Ams Jason Brickman and Jeremiah Gray are the first high-profile players set for action in the three-a-side play, signing with Meralco and TNT Tropang Giga, respectively.
