The DFA said the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC, and the consulates general in New York, Chicago and Houston have so far reported no Filipino casualties in their jurisdictions. Winter Storm Fern brought heavy snow and ice across the U.S. and is expected to continue affecting the Northeast this week, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

NBC News reported at least 21 deaths linked to the storm, including three in Tennessee and Louisiana each; two each in Arkansas, Texas and Mississippi; and one each in Ohio, Kansas, South Carolina, Kentucky, New Jersey and Massachusetts. The embassy and consulates advised Filipinos to contact 911 or local authorities in case of emergencies.
