New Zealand PM vows to uphold PH workers’ rights in Marcos bilateral meeting

Metro Manila, November 21 ------ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern hailed the Filipino community in New Zealand for its significant contributions to her country and vowed to improve the welfare of overseas workers, Malacañang said.

This was one of the topics Ardern discussed during her bilateral meeting with President Bongbong Marcos on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Thailand. “PM Ardern lauded the Filipino community for their significant contributions to New Zealand's development and agreed to cooperate with Marcos in upholding the rights of OFWs,” the Palace said in a statement. “Both leaders expressed readiness to empower Filipino migrant workers and enhance the capacity to respond to their needs,” it added.

Marcos and Ardern also agreed to bolster the security and trade relations between the two nations. The officials specifically tackled collaborations with Filipino farmers with regard to new innovations in the agricultural sector. Aside from Ardern, Marcos previously held bilateral meetings with other world leaders including France's Emmanuel Macron and China's Xi Jinping.
