November 14 ------ GoodShipping, an insetting brand of Dutch FincoEnergies, and SQUAKE, a German climate tech company, have partnered up to accelerate the decarbonization of the shipping industry. Through the collaboration, the parties seek to “empower” cargo owners to more effectively decarbonize their scope 3 transportation emissions.
As disclosed, by using GoodShipping’s digital book-and-claim model, SQUAKE aims to enable companies to engage in more sustainable ocean transportation through insetting – eliminating the need for direct access to sustainable fuels. Decoupling the physical fuel supply from its environmental impact allows businesses to invest in sustainable fuels globally, supporting broader emissions reductions and driving climate action in the shipping sector, according to GoodShipping.
Sophia Carrillo Beeck, Commercial Manager, Carbon Management, at FincoEnergies, commented: “With GoodShipping, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to act on climate, regardless of their location or direct access to sustainable fuel. This partnership with SQUAKE amplifies our mission, expanding the reach and impact of our sustainable fuel program and supporting real, measurable change in ocean shipping emissions.”
David Lourens, Head of Carbon Solutions & Procurement at SQUAKE, stated: “SQUAKE is thrilled to partner with GoodShipping to democratize access to sustainable biofuels in ocean transport. Through this collaboration, we’re encouraging companies to actively reduce their carbon footprint without the traditional physical barriers. Together, we’re driving systemic change in the transportation and logistics sectors.”
As informed, the insetting initiative provides the opportunity for shippers to transport their freight sustainably, reducing their carbon footprint. In 2023, seventeen companies joined forces and embarked upon this journey.
