Nadine Lustre welcomes life beyond love teams, praises Alden Richards as co-star

July 14 ------ Viva artist Nadine Lustre says stepping outside the traditional love-team formula has made her career more creatively fulfilling, allowing her to collaborate with new artists such as Alden Richards, whom she described as a supportive and highly collaborative leading man in their first major project together, “Love, Siargao.”

The award-winning actress said the Philippine entertainment industry has gradually become more open to actors working with different partners which she believes benefits both performers and audiences by bringing fresh perspectives to every project. “I think it’s great that, this time around, our actors are no longer confined to a love team or just one screen partner. What makes projects exciting for me are the people I get to work with. This time, it’s no longer repetitive. Every project has a different flavor, and it becomes more collaborative,” Lustre said during a press conference.

The actress acknowledged that such collaborations would have been difficult to imagine a decade ago, when love teams dominated Philippine show business and fans were deeply invested in established pairings. “Honestly, I never imagined it. Back then, love teams were such a big deal. It felt like if you switched partners, the world would end — that’s how it seemed, especially for the supporters. You know how passionate fans were about their respective love teams,” she said.

Now, however, Lustre believes working with different actors simply makes creative sense and allows performers to continue growing. “But now that I’m able to do it, it actually makes sense. I can’t imagine celebrities or actors being stuck working with the same person all the time. Projects wouldn’t have a fresh flavor if it’s always the same people over and over again,” she added.
