September 7 ------ Actress-singer Nadine Lustre has joined forces with Filipino-American rapper Apl.de.ap for her latest single, “Donuts.”

Lustre announced the collaboration on Instagram on Saturday, Sept. 5, expressing her excitement about working with the international music star. “A little surreal making music with a legend, @apldeap. D O N U T S out on all platforms,” she wrote alongside photos of them posing against a fiery, red sky background.

The new song leans into an upbeat and daring tone, with Lustre delivering both melodic lines and rap passages. Its lyrics center on owning the narrative and being confident. The track features Taglish lyrics from both the actress and Apl.de.ap.

“Donuts” marks another release from Lustre following “Personal,” which came out in August and marked her return to music after a three-year hiatus. Her previous solo release was “Overgrown,” released in June 2023.

Lustre recently appeared in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry “Call Me Mother” alongside Vice Ganda. She also stars opposite Alden Richards in the romantic drama web series “Love, Siargao.”

Apl.de.ap, meanwhile, rose to fame as a member of the Black Eyed Peas, whose hits include “Where Is the Love?,” “Boom Boom Pow,” and “I Gotta Feeling.” The rapper is also known for songs that highlight his Filipino roots, such as “Bebot” and “The APL Song.” He was earlier announced as one of the headliners of the upcoming “9RACE” music festival in Manila this October.
