September 10 ------ A year after she finished second in the 2024 World Top Model competition, Mutya ng Pilipinas Megan Campbell delightfully shared that she has returned to Italy for possible modeling gigs in Europe. “I am now connected with a modeling agency in Milan, and I have a potential future to connect with an agency in Copenhagen and Paris as well,” she told Inquirer Entertainment at the sidelines of the recent Mutya ng Pilipinas “sponsors’ night” in Makati City.

Campbell was not even supposed to compete in the World Top Model contest. She was proclaimed Mutya ng Pilipinas-Visayas in the 2022 national pageant, getting a title that came with no international assignment. But Anne Klein Castro, the supposed delegate to the World Top Model competition last year, encountered visa troubles that prevented her from flying to Italy in time for the contest.

The Mutya ng Pilipinas organization quickly contacted Campbell to ask if she would be willing to take over Castro’s slot in the competition and fly immediately to Milan. The Cebuana beauty stepped up to the challenge and was proclaimed first runner-up in the global tilt.

She returned to Italy in May and stayed in Milan until June. “The main purpose was to connect with other models within [Europe]. And also to connect with the photographers that the World Top Model is associated with,” she shared. Getting in touch with photographers enabled Campbell to assemble a “new and improved” model portfolio, which helped her gain connections and build a network in the Italian modeling industry.

“Going to Italy was not only a dream come true because [it’s] Italy, but it’s a dream come true because I now wake up with purpose. I wake up with a dream that I thought was too far beyond my reach,” she said. “Winning World Top Model has opened up so many doors, to not only connect with people on an international platform, but also to expose myself to new techniques, and educational programs that make me better, to do the things that I love most in this world,” she addressed the guests at the event.

Castro, meanwhile, will finally be able to fulfill one of her most important duties as titleholder. Mutya ng Pilipinas president Cory Quirino shared at the event that she will compete in the 2025 World Top Model competition in China in October.
