August 30 ------ Liana Barrido‘s reign as Miss Tourism International will end in Malaysia, where she also won the crown, this coming October, the organizers of the global tilt announced on social media.
Forty delegates from around the world are expected to compete in the 28th edition of the Malaysia-based international pageant, which will conclude in the “World Final” scheduled on Oct. 18 at the Genting International Showroom of Resorts World Genting. The competition was originally planned to take place in the Philippines, with Davao City chosen to host the international pageant in November this year.
Mutya ng Pilipinas, the organization that holds the franchise and fielded Barrido to the contest, announced in January that the Miss Tourism International pageant would be held outside Malaysia for the first time this year. The pageant’s head, Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi, even flew to Manila from Kuala Lumpur to grace the event announcing the Philippines’ hosting of his competition, and to inspect the facilities in Davao.
But in May, Mutya ng Pilipinas announced that Davao City’s staging of the Miss Tourism International pageant would not push through this year. Ooi was also in Manila when the announcement was made, and said he would reveal details of the 2025 pageant later. As in his previous competitions, multiple international titles will be awarded. The 30th Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International winner will also be crowned at the ceremonies. Filipino queen Leren Mae Bautista won the title in a stand-alone contest held in Malaysia in 2015.
