April 1 ------ As many Filipinos will return home to their loved ones this Holy Week, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) reminded operators of buses and other public utility vehicles (PUVs) to screen only films with G (general patronage) and PG (parental guidance) ratings.
MTRCB issued a memorandum, dated March 24, reminding operators of their need to comply. “The Board reminds all common carrier operators that only motion pictures and/or trailers classified by the Board as for general patronage or ‘G’ and parental guidance or ‘PG’ shall be exhibited inside such common carriers,” it said, noting that its directive covers operators of buses, sea vessels, and PUVs that screen films and series.
Note that films rated G can be watched by all audiences, while those with a PG rating require parental guidance or supervising adults due to certain themes. The MTRCB said it will conduct on-site inspections to ensure PUV compliance.
As families travel together this Holy Week, we want to ensure that what is shown inside public transport remains safe and appropriate for all passengers, especially children. By showing only ‘G’ and ‘PG’ content, operators help create a more respectful and family-friendly environment for everyone on board,” MTRCB chairperson Diorella “Lala” Sotto-Antonio said in a press statement. “This is a time for reflection and togetherness. May the observance of the Holy Week bring hope, renewed strength, compassion, and solidarity to all,” she added. The government agency warned that operators who fail to comply may face suspension, fines, permit cancellation, and other penalties.
