May 1 ------ Filipina singer and actress Morissette Amon has been nominated for Best Actress at the 58th WorldFest Houston International Film Festival.
The festival recently announced this year’s Best Actress nominees on their Instagram page. Morissette is nominated for her portrayal in “Song of the Fireflies,” alongside Suzana Piers from Brazil and Devin Sidell from the United States. “These performances moved us, inspired us, and reminded us why storytelling matters,” wrote the organizers.
In her big screen debut, Morissette portrays Alma Taldo in “Song of the Fireflies,” a provincial teacher who transforms the Loboc Children’s Choir into an internationally acclaimed singing group despite hailing from a small town in Bohol.
Morissette is fresh off her Best Actress win for the same musical film at the Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) in Hollywood earlier this year. “Song of the Fireflies” is scheduled to have a screening at the Houston International Film Festival on May 1st, while the announcement of the winners is set for May 2nd.
The festival organizers stated that they are “excited” to share the true-to-life Filipino musical drama with their audience.
Aside from Morissette, “Song of the Fireflies” also features Rachel Alejandro, Krystal Brimner, and Noel Comia Jr., among others.
