MANILA, Philippines, August 14 ------ Fast lanes for leptospirosis patients have been established at state hospitals nationwide, according to the Department of Health (DOH). “From 27, there are now 49 leptospirosis fast lanes nationwide to provide immediate and effective response to patients infected with leptospirosis and other diseases,” the DOH said.

People who have waded through floodwater should visit a health facility to prevent infection, the agency advised. The DOH said emergency room bed capacity at the Rizal Medical Center has been increased to accommodate leptospirosis patients. Non-medical areas in the hospital have been converted into additional leptospirosis wards.

The state hospital adopted screening to easily identify leptospirosis patients and provide them with appropriate treatment.
