Mika Salamanca assures fans and netizens of her political beliefs

September 24 ------ Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition Kapuso Big Winner Mika Salamanca took to social media to reaffirm her stand on political issues after receiving criticism over her ties with controversial personalities.

On her X (formerly Twitter) account, Mika acknowledged the disappointment of some fans and netizens but assured them she has always stood by the Filipino people. “I understand where the disappointment and frustration are coming from, and I am truly sorry. if i can only say one thing about this, i assure you that i will stand and will always stand with the people,” Mika wrote in a post.

The PBB alum admitted that she had “questionable choices of friends” in the past but emphasized that she never wavered in her principles. “Yes I admit that I had questionable choices of friends when I was at my lowest, but one thing has always been clear to me, I've always made sure to stand my ground even during those times,” she added.

Mika ended her statement, saying: “I spoke about what I believed in no matter who I was around.” Her statement came after netizens criticized her for being linked to Veronica “Kitty” Duterte, the youngest daughter of former president Rodrigo Duterte. Some pointed out that the connection contradicted her advocacies, noting that Mika was still following Kitty on social media, a move she later reversed by unfollowing her.

Mika’s sister, Samantha Salonga, defended her, clarifying that Mika is no longer friends with Kitty and has always been vocal about her political stance—even within their own family. “As an ate I feel like I need to step in. I just want you all to know na even sa family, vocal yan at nakikipag debate sa principles niya! Mind you, she’s not even friends with Kitty anymore,” she said in a post.

Samantha also explained why Mika still follows certain personalities online. “If you ask why she's still following those people (even me nagagalit btw) her reason is for them to see her takes and mas maabot nya sila since target audience nya din sila. (very brainy if you’d ask me) and kahit nung friends pa sila Mika was very vocal kung paano nya gisingin mga yan,” Samantha added.

She emphasized how Mika’s firm political belief influenced their family in choosing who they voted for. “Dikdik nyo na mika has always been vocal about her stance EVEN SA FRIENDS, some of our family nag turn around sa pagiging DDS at BBM dahil sa kanya. She's the youngest sa amin but she's not afraid to go against the whole family. Following lang yan, alam nya ginagawa nya,” she expressed. Fans also expressed support for the Kapuso Big Winner online. “Who you are right now and how you inspired us is what matters most. We have finally seen your heart, and we will always see it. Be free to be who you are. Our love will not cage you; our love will not hold you back, our love will cheer for you, always. LIPAD lang MIKA!” a fan wrote.

Another one said: “mika salamanca is far from performative, and her actions make that clear. From the very beginning, she's been very consistent in standing up for what is right. and just today, after work, she went straight to the protest. that says a lot about her. #BahaSaLuneta” Mika also joined thousands of Filipinos in the nationwide protest against corruption and flood control anomalies.
