MANILA, Philippines, May 2 ------ Minimum wage earners in Metro Manila may receive an increase in their daily take-home pay by July, the Department of Labor and Employment said. DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in the National Capital Region (NCR) would start the wage review for workers in private companies by mid-May.

According to DOLE-NCR director Sarah Mirasol, the RTWPB will conduct labor and employer consultations this month before holding a public hearing in June. Laguesma noted that the RTWPBs are mandated to review and possibly grant adjustments to the prevailing minimum wage.

Members of trade groups yesterday held Labor Day protests to pressure the Marcos administration to certify as urgent pending measures granting a P200 legislated wage hike.
