MANILA, July 12 ------ Electricity prices are going up in July, Meralco said. The power distributor said charges would increase by P0.49/kwh due to higher generation and transmission charges.

This means electricity bills will increase by the following amounts.

Consumption Increase

200 kwh P98

300 kwh P146

400 kwh P195

500 kwh P244

In a statement, Meralco said the generation charge went up by P0.3407/kWh, as charges from power supply agreements rose by P0.4476/kWh. Charges from independent power producers, meanwhile, inched up by P0.4992/kWh. The utility said higher fuel prices and a weaker peso drove these costs upward. "World fuel prices went up in the June supply month in reaction to the Israel-Iran conflict," Meralco noted. "The impact of higher fuel costs was aggravated by the peso’s depreciating to its weakest level since March 2025 — affecting around 58 percent and 99 percent of (power supply agreements) and (independent power producer) costs, respectively," it added.

Charges from the wholesale electricity spot market, however, fell by P0.1703/kWh as supply in the Luzon grid improved because of softer demand. The transmission charge also went up by P0.0734/kWh due to higher charges from the reserve market, Meralco added.
