MANILA, Philippines, May 15 ------ Manila Electric Co.’s (Meralco) electricity rates have dropped by 75 centavos per kilowatt hour (kWh) this month on lower charges from the spot market and independent power producers. In a briefing, the power distributor said the overall rate for a typical household is at P12.2628 per kWh, down from P13.0127 per kWh in April.

This means that the average residential customer, which consumes 200 kWh a month, would get a relief in billing of about P150 this May. Meralco’s distribution charge, meanwhile, remained unchanged at 36 centavos per kWh since August 2022. The power company’s franchise area covers Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, and select areas in Pampanga, Laguna, Batangas, and Quezon.
