MANILA, Philippines, June 7 ------ Lower water bills are seen for customers of Maynilad Water Services Inc. starting next month while those serviced by Manila Water should expect no rate adjustments.

In an advisory, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) announced a reduction of P0.12 per cubic meter in the rates of west zone concessionaire Maynilad. The figure is equivalent to a decrease of P0.34 in the bills of Maynilad customers consuming 10 cubic meters or less, P1.29 for those using 20 cubic meters and P2.66 for 30 cubic meters. “Even though the reduction will be minimal, it could still help customers, especially amid increasing costs of goods,” MWSS-RO chief regulator Patrick Lester Ty said at a press briefing.

He said the tariff rollback for west zone customers would be implemented starting July 1. Manila Water will not be implementing any rate adjustments and will continue to apply its previously approved foreign currency differential adjustment (FCDA) of P0.39 per cubic meter. The tariff adjustment for Manila Water will be implemented in the next quarter, the MWSS said.

The water rate reduction comes following the approval of the FCDA for the third quarter of 2026 by the MWSS on May 28. The MWSS said adjustments are made to allow water service providers to recover losses or give back gains arising from fluctuations in foreign exchange rates. Ty noted that Maynilad’s rollback was driven by the appreciation of the Philippine peso against the Japanese yen, which covers 58 percent of the foreign currency loan of the water concessionaire.

He said that current computation for the east zone concessionaire was “impractical to implement” as Manila Water’s computation was less than P0.01 per cubic meter. Maynilad delivers water services to parts of Manila, Quezon City, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon. It also serves several cities and municipalities in Cavite. Manila Water provides services to Marikina, Pasig, Makati, Taguig, Pateros, Mandaluyong, San Juan as well as portions of Quezon City and Manila.
