MANILA, Philippines, September 8 ------ Three fishermen who had been stranded in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) for two days were rescued by Philippine Marines. According to the Marine Battalion Landing Team-9, the fishermen – all residents of Barangay San Piro in Balayan, Batangas – drifted toward an isolated detachment where they were rescued and given assistance.
The Marines said the three fishermen – Romeo Carta, Rojin Santillan and Axel Gonzaga – got separated from their mother boat due to rough sea conditions. Marine personnel coordinated with the Philippine Navy in contacting the fishermen’s mother boat to safely bring them back to their families.
In a statement, the Marine Corps said the rescue highlights their commitment to safeguard lives and uphold maritime security in the WPS, ensuring that territorial waters and Filipino fishermen are protected.
