December 4 ------ Vice Mayor Marcos Mamay didn’t just step into a bigger national role this week — he also stepped further into the spotlight of Philippine showbiz.
Fresh from being elected Vice President for Operations at the 29th National Convention of the Vice Mayors League of the Philippines (VMLP) last Nov. 26, 2025, at the Manila Hotel, Mamay is simultaneously celebrating a surge of recognition from the entertainment industry. His biopic "Mamay: A Journey to Greatness" continues to sweep awards, with its theme song "Hamon" emerging as one of this year’s most decorated indie film tracks.
The film’s anthem — composed and arranged by Vehnee Saturno, produced by Mamay, and performed by Gerald Santos — was recently awarded Indie Movie Theme Song of the Year at the 41st PMPC Star Awards for Movies. This comes on the heels of its earlier triumphs at the 73rd FAMAS Awards, where Mamay won five major honors, including Best Song for "Hamon."
Speaking about the back-to-back victories, Mamay said: “‘Hamon’ was written to reflect resilience — a story I’ve lived and continue to live. Seeing it embraced by the industry is deeply humbling. These recognitions prove that stories rooted in truth, whether in governance or cinema, will always resonate.” He added that the film’s success fuels his drive for public service: “Art has a way of reminding us why we serve. If this song and this film inspire even one person to rise above hardship, then every effort was worth it.”
Beyond the cinematic spotlight, Mamay’s election as VMLP VP for Operations marks another milestone in a long and steady leadership career. “This new responsibility gives me the chance to lead with purpose and collaborate with vice mayors nationwide,” he said. “Public service and the arts may seem worlds apart, but both demand heart, craft, and a commitment to uplift lives.”
Mamay’s track record spans his tenure as mayor of Nunungan, Lanao del Norte, where he prioritized roads, water systems, public buildings, electrification, and peace initiatives that helped elevate the municipality from third-class to first-class. His governance reforms also earned Nunungan the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).
Today, with public office in one hand and film accolades in the other, Mamay continues to bridge two worlds — governance and storytelling — proving that leadership can inspire both policy and art. And as "Mamay: A Journey to Greatness" and its award-winning theme "Hamon" continue to gain traction in the industry, one thing is clear: Mamay is leaving a mark far beyond the halls of government.
