Marcio Lassiter sets PBA all-time 3-point record

MANILA, Philippines, September 16 ------ San Miguel sniper Marcio Lassiter wasted no time breaking the Philippine Basketball Association’s long-standing all-time record for career triples made. The Beermen sniper got going early at Smart Araneta Coliseum, hitting back-to-back-to-back baskets to break Jimmy Alapag’s record that went untouched for nearly eight years.

Lassiter hit his first triple from the left wing 42 seconds into the duel with Barangay Ginebra before a thick crowd at the Big Dome. He hit the second three-pointer, wide open after about three minutes, tying Alapag’s 1,250 thanks to a Jordan Adams assist. Lassiter became the new three-point king just 30 seconds later, nailing a pull-up jumper over Gin Kings guard Maverick Ahanmisi.

As if to make a point, Lassiter also drilled another tiple at the 5:46 mark of the opening period. He let out a guttural scream to celebrate his basket—one that put the Beermen up, 23-7, and one that forced the Barangay Ginebra to call for a timeout. Interestingly, the last record was also set against Barangay Ginebra. Then playing for Meralco, Alapag hit a triple from the left wing early into Game 2 of the Governors’ Cup championship series on Oct. 9, 2016.

The two players who could try to chase after Lassiter’s record are Barangay Ginebra’s LA Tenorio and Magnolia’s Paul Lee.
