MANILA, March 15 ------ Manila Water rates are going up by P0.04 per cubic meter starting April. In a statement, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) said it approved its regulatory office's recommendation to implement the foreign currency differential adjustment (FCDA) for the 2nd quarter of 2025, based on Manila Water's recommendation. This means Manila Water will implement a P0.65 per cubic meter FCDA, up from the present P0.61. This amount is 1.39 percent of its average basic charge of P47.10 per cubic meter.

West zone concessionaire Maynilad, meanwhile, is not yet adjusting rates at this time, the MWSS said. This means water bills may reach the following amounts:

Consumption                               Bill

10 cubic meters or less          P255.04 from P254.83

20 cubic meters or less         P563.92 from P563.47

30 cubic meters or less.        P1,149.65 from P1,148.75

The FCDA is a tariff mechanism that lets concessionaires recover losses or give back gains coming from fluctuations in foreign exchange rates. Aside from Manila Water, power distributor Meralco also announced rate hikes recently.
