Metro Manila, January 22 ------ Filipinos can enjoy another long weekend as Malacañang also declared February 9, a Friday, as a special non-working holiday in celebration of the Chinese New Year.
The Palace earlier declared the Chinese New Year, which falls on Feb. 10, as a special non-working day nationwide. “The declaration of 09 February 2024, Friday, as an additional special non-working day throughout the country will give the people the full opportunity to celebrate the Chinese New Year and enable our countrymen to avail of the benefits of a longer weekend,” according to Proclamation No. 453 signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
The latest proclamation from Malacañang also directs the Department of Labor and Employment to issue a circular with regards to holiday pay in the private sector. The Chinese New Year celebrates the start of a new year based on the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar.
