Magnitude 5.6 quake off Quezon province felt in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines, July 30 ------ A magnitude 5.6 tectonic earthquake struck off Quezon province late Wednesday night, July 29, and was felt in Quezon City and other parts of Luzon, state seismologists said.

In an advisory, PHIVOLCS reported that the quake occurred at 10:11 p.m. The earthquake was located 93 kilometers north 36 degrees east of the municipality of Jomalig at a depth of 10 kilometers. Intensity 3 was reported in Quezon City. Ground shaking was also felt in other parts of Metro Manila. Instrumental Intensity 3, meanwhile, was recorded in Jose Panganiban and Mercedes in Camarines Norte, as well as Guinayangan and Infanta in Quezon. Instrumental Intensity 2 was recorded in Ragay, Iriga City, Pili, Sipocot and Sagñay in Camarines Sur.

PHIVOLCS said damage is not expected, but aftershocks may occur.
