MANILA, July 30 ------ The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has waived the fines for the late registration of vehicles and renewal of driver’s license, and extended the settlement of traffic apprehensions in calamity-stricken areas. In a statement, LTO acting Assistant Secretary Greg Pua Jr. said the move aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s order to maximize assistance to Filipinos affected by the successive storms and enhanced southwest monsoon or “habagat” that brought heavy rains and floods last week.

In a memorandum signed by Pua, the waiving of fines covers late motor vehicle registration and driver’s license renewal from July 21 to 25. “Validity of the vehicle registration and driver’s license within that period is likewise extended to Aug. 8, 2025,” he said. The memorandum was issued to LTO regional directors and other agency officials nationwide.

On the other hand, the penalty for motor vehicles, including motorcycles, bought from July 21 to 25 but are yet to be registered will also be waived. He said all vehicles bought within this period will have their registration deadline count begin on Aug. 8 to avoid the penalty for late registration. The 15 days for settling all traffic apprehension cases from July 21 to 25 will also be extended. “Hence, the last day of the settlement of fines on said apprehensions without penalty shall be on Aug. 8, 2025,” he said.

The memo cited three successive weather disturbances – Severe Tropical Storm Crising, Tropical Storm Dante, and Typhoon Emong. An estimated 2.7 million people were affected by the flooding, strong winds, and heavy rains, in addition to massive property damage.
