August 8 ------ The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has produced all backlogged motor vehicle plates dating from 2014 to 2023, according to Executive Director Atty. Greg Pua. “Noong pumasok po si PBBM, ang backlog ay nasa 11 to 12 million… na-i-produce na po natin lahat… may sufficient supply po tayo. It’s just that na nasa distribution na po tayo,” Pua said.
This was made possible through budget allocations under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration, which enabled the agency to double its production capacity according to Pua. To ensure plates reach vehicle owners, the LTO launched the “Stop, Plate and Go” initiative wherein motorcycles without plates are flagged by enforcers, verified on the spot, and issued their plates immediately. “Paparahin po yung motorsiklong walang plaka at right then and there, ive-verify kung ano yung plaka niya… and right then and there, ikakabit yung plaka niya… and then they can go,” Pua said.
Motorists can also check plate availability via the LTO Tracker, accessible through the eGov app. Distribution efforts are scaling up, with events planned in high-traffic areas such as mall parking lots and PEZA zones. The goal is to distribute 7.5 million plates by October 31, 2025, with a target of 100,000 plates per day. Meanwhile, enforcement efforts also continue, especially for unregistered vehicles.
Pua said motorists caught operating an unregistered vehicle are required to pass a road worthiness inspection before being successfully granted their vehicle’s registration. “Pag nahuli kang unregistered… kailangan po muna pumasa sa road worthiness inspection without human intervention… alinsunod po ito sa utos ng ating presidente na siguraduhin na lahat ng sasakyan ay road-worthy for the safety of our road users,” he added.
LTO will continue its “Stop, Plate and Go” initiative on August 8, 2025, 3:00 PM at the 5th Floor Parking Level of SM North EDSA.
