December 28 ------ The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said that only four new motorcycle taxi firms are accredited by the agency to operate in Central Luzon and Calabarzon.
In a press release, LTFRB chairman Atty. Teofilo Guadiz said Taxsee Philippines, ParaXpress, GrabBike, and Dingdong have been assigned a rider cap of 2,000 each, adding that they can operate exclusively in Central Luzon and Calabarzon. “Ang dumagdag po riyan ay apat po: Taxsee Philippines, ParaXpress, Grab, and Dingdong. Ito lang po ang dumagdag sa MTtaxinadagdag po sila mga four months ago,” Guadiz said. "They were only given 2,000 each. The agreement is that they should be deployed outside the NCR. So these are deployed in Regions 3 and 4. They have been relegated to Regions 3 and 4, ‘yun lang po,'' he added.
Guadiz’s statements came amid complaints from riders that there were two-wheeled transportation network companies supposedly operating without the proper authorization from government regulators, particularly in Lipa City where some Angkas riders have been reported plying their routes. The LTFRB chairman pointed out that while the existing number of motorcycle taxi riders in the country was insufficient, no additional number of drivers was needed in Metro Manila. Meanwhile, Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito reminded the LTFRB to ensure that the newly-accredited motorcycle taxiscomply with safety standards.
