MANILA, July 27 ------ The La Niña phenomenon is expected to bring more rains, according to DOST Sec. Renato Solidum. At the 2024 Post-SONA discussions, Solidum assured mitigation measures are in place. And meron tayong climate forum para mas advanced na ang makuha ng ating Department of Agriculture," he said. "So importante po na talagang tutukan natin ito kasi nga ang La Niña maraming dalang ulan kaya kailangan tayo maghanda," he added.
The official reiterated that the DOST still sees La Niña to develop by August. "La Niña has a chance of developing starting August, with 70 percent chance. But the highest will be around the last quarter of the year, and this would persist the first quarter of the year," Solidum said. "Now with La Niña, as the typhoons would actually cross over the country most likely, then we should prepare for strong typhoons as well," he added.
Meanwhile, DSWD Sec. Rex Gatchalian said 79,000 family food packs have been distributed since last week due to Typhoon Carina. "Meron na tayong almost - since last week, nagpunta kami sa Mindanao - almost 79,000 na family food box na inilabas. And we are projecting to release close to 200,000 spread across the entire country," he shared.
