April 10 ------ As Filipinos try to get back on their feet amid the global fuel crisis, Kyline Alcantara shared her plans to help jeepney drivers in honor of her grandfather. Alcantara opened up about her plans to give back to jeepney drivers, explaining that her grandfather has the same job, which is perhaps why the ongoing crisis hits home for her. “I’m going to do something to help the drivers. It’s like an homage to my lolo, na jeepney driver before sa Bicol,” she told reporters on the sidelines of KLAD Jewelry’s launch event, when asked how she is doing amid the rising costs of fuel and affected goods. “So siyempre, gusto kong pumunta lang sa isang fuel station, baka po sa Quezon City or depende kung saan puwede,” she continued.

Before touching on the topic, the actress admitted that she initially didn’t want to divulge them as she doesn’t want to draw public attention to her efforts to give back. “Actually, ayokong sabihin [at first] kasi it might sound like [I’m doing] it for publicity and ayokong maging gan’un. Baka kasi isipin na ginagamit ko ang mga nangyayari sa bansa for publicity and ang pangit naman n’un,” she said.

Even before her upcoming efforts, Alcantara shared that she organizes charity events, especially during her birthday. “I do charity events and [personally], hindi ako nagcecelebrate talaga ng birthday. I’d rather do charity events. Imbes na ipang-party, I’ll do charity na lang. Ever since, hindi ko lang talaga [pinaguusapan in public] kasi baka isipin ng mga tao na pang-publicity,” she said.

For now, Alcantara is making efforts to address the crisis by reducing the number of times she leaves the house. She has been thrifty with her home appliances as well. “I’m super affected [too kaya] bawas muna ako sa paglabas-labas para hindi masyadong magastos. Bawas talaga muna ako ng expenses sa bahay. As much as possible, sarado lahat ng mga kailangan i-unplug (I’m super affected too, so I don’t go out as much anymore. I also cut my expenses at home. I also unplug what needs to be unplugged and close what needs to be closed),” she said.

Alcantara, an ambassador for the local jewelry brand, is one of the lead stars of the upcoming Kapuso drama “Firewall,” which stars Jak Roberto and Kylie Padilla.
