March 10 ------ Kanlaon Volcano in Negros continued to show unrest logging 18 volcanic earthquakes, data from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology showed.

The volcano, which straddles the provinces of Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental, also emitted 2,407 tonnes of sulfur dioxide on Saturday, according to PHIVOLCS' bulletin issued Sunday. Moderate plumes rising up to 150 meters tall from the crater were also observed as the volcano continues degassing. The plumes drifted westward.

PHIVOLCS said Kanlaon Volcano's edifice remains inflated. Alert Level 3 (Intensified Unrest/Magmatic Unrest) is still in effect on Sunday, PHIVOLCS said. It again reminded the public that the six-kilometer radius from the volcano's summit should remain evacuated. Likewise, flying aircraft close to the volcano is not allowed.

According to PHIVOLCS, Kanlaon Volcano poses the following possible hazards:

• sudden explosive eruption;

• lava flow or effusion;

• ashfall

• pyroclastic density current;

• rockfall; and

• lahars during heavy rains.
