'Kalma lang!' Anne Curtis shuts down network switch talks

MANILA, PHILIPPINES, July 3 ------ 'And isa pa, babalik pa ako sa It’s Showtime. So kalma lang madlang peeps,' says the actress and host. Actress and TV host Anne Curtis-Smith on Thursday, July 1, shut down speculation that she'd move from ABS-CBN to its rival station, GMA. "Kalma (Calm down). They pitched a film for next year na hindi pa naman (that's not even) sure yet. As always, I need to read the script first before making a decision," said Anne in a tweet, reacting to a follower asking her to confirm that she was only meeting with GMA Films and not planning to move to GMA.

Anne also noted that she's starred in a film collab between Viva, her management agency, and GMA Films. "I was already a Kapamilya then. So Kalma Lang!" she said. "Kapamilya" refers to stars, talents, and fans of ABS-CBN, one of the country's biggest media networks. Speculations were fueled by a post showing Anne in a Zoom call with officials from GMA Films. The post also happened to go viral the same day Bea Alonzo officially signed a contract with GMA after nearly two decades as an ABS-CBN star.

Anne further shut down rumors by confirming that she would return to the noontime variety show It's Showtime. "And isa pa, babalik pa ako sa It’s Showtime. So kalma lang madlang peeps!!!!" she said. Anne is among the main hosts of It's Showtime, a noontime variety show that boasts of an ensemble that includes Vice Ganda, Vhong Navarro, and Karylle, among others. Anne went on hiatus from the show shortly before she gave birth to her first daughter, Dahlia, in Australia.

The actress and occasional singer spent most of 2020 in Australia before flying back to the Philippines in February 2021. A Viva artist since the late 90s, Anne first started her career at GMA before moving to ABS-CBN in 2004. She has been with ABS-CBN since. Anne, 36, is among the biggest names in Philippine showbusiness.
