Kai Sotto, AJ Edu solid in Week 2 of Japan B.League season




October 15 ------ GILAS Pilipinas bigs Kai Sotto and AJ Edu had contrasting weekends despite their solid showings in the Japan B.League. Sotto’s monster efforts still wasn’t enough to help Koshigaya Alphas break through as the newly-promoted side fell to 0-4 in the standings.

 

The 7-foot-3 center delivered a double-double to the tune of 18 points, 15 rebounds, and one steal in their 87-65 loss to Ryukyu Golden Kings at Koshigaya City Gymnasium on Saturday. He followed it up with another 16-point, 14-rebound night laced with three assists, one block, but they once again lost, 87-59, on Sunday.

 

Edu, on the other hand, helped Nagasaki Velca complete a road sweep of Levanga Hokkaido at Yotsuba Arena Tokachi and rise to 3-1. He only had four points, eight rebounds, two steals, and two blocks in their 68-59 win on Saturday before bouncing back with 18 points, nine boards, three assists, two blocks, and one steal in their 79-70 victory on Sunday.

 

Dwight Ramos missed the game for Hokkaido due to an injury as the home team slipped to 0-4. Meanwhile, Ray Parks and Osaka Evessa remained undefeated through four games as they treated their home fans at Ookini Arena Maishima with a sweep of Fighting Eagles Nagoya. Parks had 17 points, three assists, two rebounds, and one steal in Osaka’s 96-67 conquest on Saturday before registering seven points, four boards, two assists, and one steal in the Evessa’s 70-56 win on Sunday.

 

Matthew Wright and Kiefer Ravena, on the other hand, weren’t as fortunate. Wright’s 20 points, three rebounds, an assist, and a steal weren’t enough as the Kawasaki Brave Thunders got routed by Nagoya Diamond Dolphins, 82-62, at Dolphins Arena on Saturday. Sunday wasn’t any better as he only had 10 points, four assists, two steals, and one rebound in their 94-87 loss to fall to 1-3.

 

Ravena was held to five points, three assists, one rebound, and one steal in Yokohama B-Corsairs’ 89-80 loss to Alvark Tokyo at Yokohama International Pool on Saturday, before nabbing seven points, two assists, one rebound, and one steal in their 79-68 defeat the day after to drop to an even 2-2 slate. In B2, Roosevelt Adams almost had a double-double with his nine points and 12 rebounds in Yamagata Wyverns’ 87-86 loss to Fukushima Firebonds at Azuma Gymnasium on Saturday, before he collected eight points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals in their 86-70 bounce back for their first win on Sunday.

 

Geo Chiu was also limited for Ehime Orange Vikings, notching five points and seven rebounds in their 98-92 loss to Shinshu Brave Warriors at Matsuyama City Community Center on Saturday. Chku got two points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in their 98-64 Sunday loss to drop to 1-3.
